Matthew Rhys, known for his role as Philip Jennings on FX’s Soviet spy period drama ‘The Americans,’ is on cloud nine since being nominated for the 68th Emmy awards for the lead actor category. However, that actor has been able to win hearts with myriad roles over his career that included the role of Romeo, a homosexual lawyer and a KBG spy.
‘The Americans’ have been finally nominated for the 68th Emmy awards for categories that include drama series, lead actress for Keri Russell and lead actor for Rhys. The series, set in the era of cold war, follows Soviet spies Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, played by Russell, who disguise as an American couple. However, Emmys did not happen easily for the series, the Deadline reported.
Rhys’ career in acting began in 1998 with a colonial costume drama, Greenstone. In 1999, he landed a role in drama/thriller Titus, which also starred Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange.

The 39-year-old is still single, however, there are rumours of him and his on-screen wife Russell dating. Russell has recently split with her husband Shane Deary and Rhys’ mother is reportedly seeking a confirmation of the alleged affair from her son.
“She calls up going, ‘What’s going on? I just read this about you.’ I tell her, ‘You have to take off your Google alerts,” Rhys was quoted as saying by the People.
Previously, Rhys was dating Sienna Miller, ‘The Edge of Love’ co-star. It was later learnt that Miller went on to date Rhys on-screen brother Balthazar Getty.
Kevin Walker, a homosexual lawyer played by Rhys in ‘Brothers & Sisters,’ is one of the most notable characters he has played during his career. According to Rhys, the show dealt with the concept of homosexuality in a very positive manner, the Heavy.com reported.
Apart from the latest nomination for the lead actor category in the Emmy awards, the name of Mathew Rhys appeared in nominations for numerous other titles over the years. According to the IMDb, these included the nomination for the best actor in the BAFTA Cymru Award for his role in ‘The Edge of Love’ in 2009, the Critics Choice Television Awards nomination for the best actor in drama series category for ‘The Americans,’ and a nomination under the best TV actor category in 2013 at the IGN Summer Movie Awards.
