Earlier, it was revealed that Idris Elba is once been nominated for a Primetime Emmy. The English actor has been noted for his role as John Luther in the 2015 limited series, Luther. He will be competing in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie category.
Idris Elba had been nominated twice for Primetime Emmy in 2012 and 2014 as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie. Although the actor is currently busy filming for Thor: Ragnarok as Heimdall, it looks like his achievements in television will land him another award.
Elba’s portrayal of Luther has earned everyone’s stamp of approval since the first season. Earlier in 2012, the actor received a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries. Recently, the actor won the 2016 Critics Choice TV Award as Best Actor in a Movie Made for Television or Limited Series.
While the BAFTA winner has managed to bag many awards over the years, the 43-year-old is still yet to receive a Primetime Emmy for his achievements as a TV actor.
Currently, there are speculations that Elba is one of the six actors shortlisted for the next James Bond role. Fans are hoping Elba gets chosen for the role, since his portrayal as a police detective in Luther was acclaimed by many in the industry.
Idris Elba faces tough competition for the Primetime Award as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock, Bryan Cranston for All the Way, Tom Hiddleston for The Night Manager, and others have also been nominated for the category as well.
The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on September 18 at 5:00 p.m. PDT. Idris Elba is currently filming his Mini TV series, Guerrilla, in the role of Kent.
