What's This?

A couple knocked to a household to sell a 3-month-old baby from $500 to $1,000. The 25-year-old woman was the biological mother. The guy she was with was her boyfriend. The baby’s biological father was not aware his daughter was being sold this way.

The couple was identified as Ashley Harmon, 25 and Jonathan Flint, 20 both from Layland, West Virginia. Authorities from the Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies believe the couple was selling the baby in order to have money for buying drugs.

The hateful act shocked even Captain Jim Sizemore who has been with the sheriff’s office for more than 30 years.

“You try very hard to separate your professional life from your personal life. But, when there’s a child being abused, you can’t help but think there but for the grace of God is my child,” Sizemore told WSAZ.

“I have a daughter that I love more than anything on this earth, and I would gladly give my life to keep her safe,” he added.

According to the office, authorities have yet to identify the baby’s biological father.

Fortunately for the little angel, the home to which she was being sold to was owned by Carolyn Redden. She did not buy the baby.

Refusing their offer, the couple then just asked Redden to baby sit for a couple of hours to which she willingly agreed to.

While the couple was away, Redden dialed 911 and the baby was taken in custody of the child protective services.

The baby however showed indication that she is suffering from drug withdrawal. The symptoms were obvious as she won’t stop crying and kept shaking according to Redden.

Both Harmon and Flint were arrested and under the custody of the Southern Regional Jail. Their bond is set at $100,000 each.

They are charged with the felony offenses of Selling or Attempting to Sell A Child and gross Child neglect Creating A Risk Of Bodily Injury or Death to A Child.
