“Game of Thrones,” the epic fantasy drama of HBO, once again lead the pack of contenders for the Primetime Emmy Awards. It has got 23 nominations for its sixth season.

The number of GOTs nominations is just one more than its close contender crime drama, “The People V OJ Simpson,” which garnered 22 nods.

The nods for GOT included best supporting actor and actress nominations for Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headley, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams, who were last year’s Emmy winners. Besides, writers David Benioff and DB Weiss were also nominated. GOT won a record-breaking 12 awards in 2015, and delivered almost a quarter of network HBO’s 94 nods.

GOT has secured nominations for top drama series, Variety reports. Other shows vying for the category for Emmys include FX Networks most lauded series, “The Americans,” “AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” PBS’ “Downton Abbey,” Showtime’s “Homeland,” Netflix’s “House of Cards” and “Mr. Robot.”

These were among the breakthrough shows in a year when Emmy voters were overwhelmed with choices of shows seeking Emmy gold. This year the Emmys have been invaded by the British, BBC reports.

Actors, comedians and shows leading the nominations include Lauren Graham from “Gilmore Girls,” Anthony Anderson for “Blackish.” Besides, Benedict Cumberbatch, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston have been nominated for ‘Outstanding Performance in a Limited Series or Movie’ for their roles in “Sherlock,” “Luther” and “The Night Manager” respectively.

Emmy voters ensured that the acting nominees reflected the diversity that eluded the Oscars earlier this year, New York Times reports. Celebs of color like Viola Davis for “How to Get Away with Murder,” Taraji P. Henson of “Empire’s,” Tracee Ellis Ross from “Blackish,” and co-creator as well as star of “Master of None” Aziz Ansari have been nominated this year.

This year ABC will air Emmy Awards live across the country from Los Angeles on Sept. 18. Jimmy Kimmel will host the awards show. Besides, winners in craft and technical categories will be handed out awards over a two-day Creative Arts Awards ceremony from Sept. 10-11.
